THE BAMAKO CLINIC
In Mali we are expanding our program to serve, not only rural areas, but also the 6,000 street children in Bamako. Because most of these children are going barefoot they are susceptible to soil transmitted diseases. Until now, there has been little or no health care available to them. ATEG, in partnership with Rotary is changing that. We are opening a free, walk-in clinic to examine and treat these vulnerable children. For most, this will be the first time they have ever been seen by a physician. We expect this clinic will have a major impact on the health outcomes of the street children of Bamako.
Every child who is examined at the clinic will also be given a pair of KLEM shoes which will be made by women at the facility.
